Kitten Found with Two Broken Legs After Hurricane Matthew Recovering Nicely!

FLORIDA – A 4-month-old kitten is currently recovering from two broken legs after a fall during Hurricane Matthew.

The small, brown tabby kitten was quickly brought over to the
The Jacksonville Humane Society by a passerby in the early morning hours after Hurricane Matthew.

He was completely unable to move his back legs after he had fallen from the underside of a car that a family had used to evacuate, JHS said.

The kitten – now named Matthew – has two broken legs but is expected to make a full recovery, JHS stated

The animal shelter has stated that many pets are lost after a storm, and cats often find spaces to hide to seek shelter.

“We knew that the demand for this type of care following the storm would be great,” stated Denise Deisler, executive director. “Despite leaking roofs, fallen trees blocking our entrance, power outages, and many staff evacuated, we were open and serving our community within hours of the hurricane passing. We are so thankful that our staff was here to save Matthew the kitten – we can’t wait to see him walk again!”

Matthew is now in foster care and is not available for adoption yet.

JHS said they will keep the public updated on his progress on their Facebook page.

People who have recently lost their pets because of the hurricane may try to find their pet by going to the JHS website.
