Arthur, Cat Rescued From Busy New York Subway System Two Year Ago Is Missing From Brooklyn Home

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - Arthur the cat is on the loose again!

One of two stray kittens which brought subway trains to a screeching halt in Brooklyn just two years ago has vanished from his forever home.

The gray and white tabby cat has been missing from his Prospect Heights home since Nov. 20, just before Thanksgiving.

“We were out of town when it happened over Thanksgiving,” Keith Lubeley, who adopted Arthur and his brother August, told 1010 WINS. “We heard through the house sitter that he’d escaped through an open window, which is terrible and unfortunately, possibly not terribly surprising when it comes to Arthur.”

Lubeley said Arthur is the skittish one from the two cats,

Lubeley and his wife Katherine took in Arthur and August after the kittens stopped traffic on the subway system on Aug. 29, 2013. Service was suspended for about two hours on the B and Q lines in Brooklyn after transit workers cut power to the line as crews tried to catch the two kittens.

Lubeley said, “August misses his brother.”

“August has been spending a lot of time wandering around the apartment looking for him, meowing sort of forlornly, and it’s very touching, but it’s also very heartbreaking to see,” Lubeley said. “We’re trying to get them back together.”

He is reaching out to the public at large to help find the cat.

“It’s starting to seem possible that he’s moved basically outside of our neighborhood into a wider expanse of Brooklyn,” Lubeley said. “We’re trying to spread the word to people that are not just in the Prospect Heights area, but around Brooklyn in general.”

He asks that if anyone spots the cat to take a picture to confirm that it is Arthur.

Arthur is microchipped and he is heutered.

The family has created a Facebook page dedicated to finding him: Arthur the Cat - Missing in Brooklyn
