Medical advancements aren’t only helping humans – they’re also helping pets. case in point, Vincent, a three-year-old cat, was born without hind legs.
Vincent is the recipient of two titanium-alloy prosthetics which were designed to serve as the hind legs that he lacks and needs. The prosthetic implants were surgically inserted in on February of 2014. The implants were designed so that Vincent’s bones can grow and attach to the implant shafts to help better support his weight and size. This comes with a challenge. The design means that the shafts themselves are poking through Vincent’s skin and are exposed to the environment. Infection is a realistic concern, so Vincent will require special care and monitoring.
The prosthetics are currently short, but they will gradually be lengthened until they are the length that Vincent’s hind legs should be. Vincent should be able to move around much more easily at that point.
Vincent was originally brought into the Story County Animal Shelter in Iowa when he was just a kitten. His owner, Cindy Jones of Nevada, Iowa, adopted him from there.
With time, Vincent will hopefully be able to move around and enjoy his state-of-the-art prosthetic legs.
We at The Best Cat Page wish Vincent the best with these adjustments.
