PITMAN, NEW JERSEY — If you have room in your heart and in your home this Christmas, a Gloucester County animal shelter has a perfect idea for you.
This past Thursday night, 43 cats were rescued from a hoarder’s home in Pitman, New Jersey.
“Due to this situation that took place yesterday, the deadline to adopt a cat before the Christmas holiday has been extended to Wednesday, Dec. 23,” said Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger.
“The additional 43 cats that were taken in yesterday are healthy and we are focusing on finding them new homes.”
On Friday, another 25 cats or so were saved and brought to the Pitman Animal Hospital. Once they are medically cleared, the animals will be put up for adoption.
“There have been many improvements taking place at the Animal Shelter over the past eight weeks, and the addition of the new Spay/Neuter Clinic will help reduce the number of unwanted pets going forward,” said Freeholder Dan Christy. “But what we need to focus on immediately is finding homes for these cats that were found in the home in Pitman.”
In order to find a home for all of the felines, the county animal shelter is offering a Buy One-Get One Free deal for as long as it takes to get new homes for them.
The cost to adopt a cat is $95 which includes spay/neuter, feline Leukemia/AIDS combination tests, all age-appropriate vaccinations, worming, disposable cat carrier, an identification tag and collar, and a micro-chip from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter.
