ANNANDALE, NEW JERSEY — An normal fire drill for the Annadale Hose Company in New Jersey turned into a real life rescue.
It was a very close call for more than half a dozen kittens who were saved by firefighters conducting a drill.
Firefighters had already gone through one rotation in the specially-constructed building which was set ablaze to recreate conditions inside an actual structural fire.
The department says that the temperatures inside could very well reach up to 1100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Some of the squad members heard the kittens meowing in distress in one of the rooms. They went back and gathered the kittens, putting them into a towel first and then in a box. The kittens were also given oxygen.
The squad called 911 which then reached out to the Lost Paws Animal Rescue in Pittstown.
The center says after spending two days in the ICU all of the kittens are doing just fine.
There was no word on the whereabouts of the mama cat.
