UPDATE – UCLA Gunman’s Cat Seized, Will Go To Rescue Organization

MINNEAPOLIS MINNESOTA — When UCLA gunman Mainak Sarkar left a note in here in California before fatally shooting his former professor and himself last week, he asked that someone to check on his cat in his apartment in St. Paul. That cat was indeed seized by St. Paul Animal Control and is currently in custody, safety officials in the city stated.

The cat, whose name is Jiffy, is a neutered male with a chip who was found to be in exceptional health. City officials declared the animal will be given over to a rescue organization.Last Wednesday, Sarkar gunned down William Klug, who was a 39-year-old engineering professor at UCLA, before taking his own life.Sources have told CBS News that Sarkar had accused Klug in a now-deleted blog post of stealing his ideas and computer code.

In a search of the St. Paul apartment where Sarkar lived, authorities actually found a kill list, with the names of Klug, Sarkar’s former wife and another professor.

Ashley Hasti, who was married to Sarkar in 2011, was also found dead in her Brooklyn Park home in the aftermath of the college shooting. Investigators believe Sarkar killed Hasti before driving to California to gun down Klug.

The other professor who was on the kill list was not harmed.
