IDAHO – Our pets mean absolutely everything to us and if you’ve had one go missing, you know it can be devastating and it’s hard to give up hope as time passes.
That’s exactly the reality Gracie Kingsley lived for the past five months, but it seems like her cat, Catniss, may have gotten a bit tired of the “Hunger Games.”
That’s because Catniss never misses a meal even though she loves nothing more than playing outside. However, one night, right before Mother’s Day, Catniss didn’t return home.
“That was heartbreaking. You’re so used to having your cat around and all of a sudden she’s gone. And you don’t know what to think,” Gracie stated.
Gracie feared she would never see her fur-baby again.
She rescued Catniss just three years ago and they’ve been inseparable and she plastered the city with missing posters, desperate for any information.
Five months have passed, and Gracie’s birthday in October approached, and there was still no sign of Catniss. She almost lost all hope.
“The other day I was debating taking it down because it’s been so long,” she stated.
Then, the very best gift appeared.
“It was the craziest thing. I was getting ready for bed and the phone rang.”
A woman found Catniss and checked the microchip. Catniss had somehow traveled all the way from Coeur d’Alene to Post Falls.
“We had been through so many false alarms because of the posters so it was cool to have one that actually meant something,” Gracie stated. “It was the best birthday present ever.”
It’s not just some girl being reunited with her cat. It’s a girl being reunited with her very best friend.
Gracie’s hope now is that people will make sure their pets are microchipped so if their pets ever go missing, they can be found just like Catniss.
