A 12-year-old girl who lives in Ethiopia had been abducted and beaten by a group of men with plans to force marriage upon her, among other things.
Sadly, many of the young girls there must face a similar fate at some point, as over 70% of young females are forced into marriage in Ethiopia. Luckily for this girl, she had some unlikely guardian angels looking over her.
Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo was present at the scene of her rescue stated, “They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” Wondimu explained. “If the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage,” he said. The abductors really didn’t have a choice when they saw a bunch of lions surrounding her and ran for the hills. But the lions comforted her until help came.”
Wildlife experts are claiming that the cats may have protected because of the sound of her cries.
The whimpering of a young girl may have somehow been similar to the cries of a young cub, officials believe.
At least four of the seven men originally involved in this heinous crime have been arrested.
The lions came to her rescue, and this should remind us that animals, too, know what it means to show compassion, mercy and even reason!
