DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — A man who lives at an Atlantic Beach apartment complex rescued two kittens from the floods Monday.

The resident, named Jeremy Sigmon, said he heard the kittens crying and meowing for help.

“There were two cats in the bushes over here,” Sigmon told Action News Jax. “The water was so high it was to the side of the building. We heard a bunch of meowing and trucks came by with big waves (and the) meowing stopped.”

“(The kittens) started meowing again and they were trapped under the bushes drowning,” Sigmon said.

Sigmon found a way to rescue the kittens. He took one kitten in to his apartment and another resident took in the second kitten.

The apartments have high standing water after the rain of the past few days. There were more than 30 units at the apartment complex which had to be evacuated because of the high waters.

Thank you, Jeremy, for your heroic efforts! We need more people like you fighting for the kitties!
