That Sinister Cucumber Is Always Up To No Good. A Notable Scientist Weighs In

I don’t know about all of you but I am deathly afraid of salad and onions and cucumbers and you might as well just add cantaloupes to the list, too. OK, so that’s not true since I’m a vegetarian. The truth about cats and cukes isn’t so strange. It is not the cucumber itself that these hilarious cats are afraid of.

Turns out, there is a very simple explanation as to just why our kitties are so afraid of these long, green monsters, as IFL Science suggests.

Animal behavior specialist Dr Roger Mugford said: ‘I think that the reaction is due to the novelty and unexpectedness of finding an unusual object secretly placed while their heads were down in the food bowl.’

‘Cats have to be suspicious of the unknown: It could represent the danger of a snake or another predator. I suspect that there would be the same reaction to a model spider, a plastic fish or a human face mask.’

So, you see, cucumbers aren’t what’s spooking our cats ….it’s anything and everything that at first glance could be a potential threat.
