Santa Called Upon to Help Find Homes for Shelter Kittens

SACRAMENTO, CA. - With close to 100 kittens looking for homes, Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento needed a Christmas miracle.

So, they called on Santa Clause for help.

For the very first time, Front Street volunteers dressed as Santa Claus and elves delivered kittens to families in the Sacramento County area.

This was the idea of Front Street Cat Outreach Coordinator Joyce Thompson-Pierce, who was very anxious about having to find homes for so many kittens.

“I was really getting nightmarish about where are we going to find homes for all these kittens from fosters that are going to be ready in December for homes,” Thompson-Pierce said.

While deliveries were scheduled for Christmas Eve, the adoptive parents visited Front Street earlier in December to select their brand new pets. A fee of $100 covers the adoption costs, helps with expenses of delivery and will go toward Front Street’s foster program.

Seven-year-old Grace Carter received a grey kitten for Christmas. When asked whether she might ask Santa for any other gifts, she said, “This is way too much!”

And though it’s too late to get Santa to deliver kittens for this Christmas season, Front Street says they are considering a similar adoption strategy for Valentine’s Day.
