QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA – The Animal Welfare League Gold Coast has double the number of kittens they normally have in their care and are appealing to locals for their help.

Animal Welfare League state rehoming manager Melinda Phipps said the Coombabah animal rescue centre has 125 cats and 250 kittens in care.

Ms Phipps urged interested Gold Coasters to possibly foster cats as well as kittens and animals recovering from flu.

“Ideally, we would like half that number in care,” she said.

“Every day we have more cats coming into the shelter looking for homes from owners who were not expecting to have litters and don’t have the facilities to look after them.”

Ms Phipps said breeding time is at its peak for cats but owners may have their kittens desexed from four months of age.
