The Day 1,300 Cats Were Rescued!

In China, there exists a practice at one of their festivals where 10,000 cats or more end up getting slaughtered and feasted on by festival-goers. This festival violently opposed by many animal-lovers in China and the world over.

This is a shocking story of a HUGE cat rescue undertaken in an attempt to avert this practice.

More than 1300 cats who were stored in dozens of metal cages were waiting by the roadside on Xiangyang Road in Tianjin Citys Nankai District.

They were all ‘would be’ victims of cat trafficking and about to be shipped to meat dealers in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

That was, until about 100 pet lovers and animal rights activists came together to ensure their rescue.

This nefarious practice is so appalling and disturbing. Several animal rights activists oppose the festival each year, but to no avail.

Watch a scene from the actual rescue here:

“The link between animal cruelty and crimes against humans has been well documented over several decades. Many studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last 25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty. Other research has shown consistent patterns of animal cruelty among perpetrators of more common forms of violence, including child abuse, spouse abuse, and elder abuse. That said, communities have good reason to be concerned about the whereabouts of animal abusers who often repeat their violent crimes against helpless animals, and often go on to victimize people as well. Stop animal cruelty worldwide, especially in China where there are no laws to punish animal cruelty,” one activist stated.
