TWICKENHAM, ENGLAND – This black and white feisty feline, Alice, who lives in The Sussex Arms in Twickenham, south west London, had suffered a fractured back leg and broken pelvis following a possible collision with a car or a scrap with a wild animal outside.
Prior to the appeal, staff at the pub called The Sussex Arms said the vet bill was rapidly approaching $6000 and that it was mandatory Alice was operated on as soon as possible to save his life.
Assistant manager, Katie Ward, stated: “We got him last summer as a little pub kitten – he really is the life and soul of the pub.
“We called her in on Wednesday but as usual, he was dragging herself to the door.
“The vet told us it could cost £3,000 but then it got closer to £4,000, so it’s very lucky we managed to raise $5,300.”
Ms Ward also added that she also contributed “most of her inheritance” in a desperate attempt to cover the costly vet bill.
Shaun of the Dead actor, Nick Frost, also donated to the cat’s needy cause and encouraged his 1.3 million Twitter followers to donate as well.
Alice’s surgery was a complete success and he was expected to be picked up from the vets at lunch time today, Monday.
Ms Ward said: “We named him after a member of staff who used to work here, but left.
“She was the soul of the pub so we named Alice the cat after her – but then we realised she was a he.”
