VALLEY TOWNSHIP, MONTOUR COUNTY, PA - For many years, stray cats have pounced through one part of Montour County and many neighbors are sick of it.

“It’s unbelievable the first time we’ve seen them and every time you do see them they just go like in a little path like they are playing follow the leader,” said Judi West.

West has been seeing in upwards of two dozen cats in a group for the past year. She herself wouldn’t mind having a domesticated kitten or a cat as a pet, but when stray cats shown up with out an invitation, the long time Valley Township resident gets frustrated.

“Our problem is, they come and do their business, come out your back door and you have to worry about stepping in it. Dragging it into your car.”

The weather now is getting colder which means the feral’s are trying to find a place to keep warm.

“Not sure where they hide some of them I know are under my shed,” said West.

Tuesday they were hiding very well, not a furball in sight. Brian Brannon has lived in the neighborhood since April. He can look out his kitchen window into a field where cats use it as a playground, seeing upwards of 20.

“There here and they’re staying, they’re not going anywhere. They hang out in the back field and pretty much down in the lower end. They really haven’t come up here so much but like I said the dog pretty much keeps them out of my yard,” said Brannon.

Neighbors tell news sources that an elderly neighbor who sold her house on Eister Loop Road used to feed stray cats for months if not years. Once she moved away, the animals roamed the neighborhood looking for food. Currently a different neighbor is making sure those cats don’t starve.

“Well if they want them then keep them on their property, you know contain them. Cause most of the neighbors don’t,” said Brannon.

Those who are feeding the stray cats did not want to appear on camera but do say they are looking to spay and neuter the roaming cats.

The SPCA in Danville says if you have any stray cats that are feral but friendly, call their offices at (570) 275-0340 to see if they have any available spots for those animals.

The organization does not recommend trapping feral’s as they may not be friendly enough to stay in a shelter or to be adopted.

SPCA in Danville is located at 2801 Bloom Road.
