Argument Over Cat Leads to SWAT Standoff in Texas!

Texas – An argument over a cat ended up prompting a SWAT standoff at a Corpus Christi apartment early Tuesday, police stated.

Shortly after midnight, Blake Garcia, who is 27, and his mother got into an argument over a cat. When he threatened to kill her, his mother left the apartment in the 3600 block of Crestbrook Court and called police.

Sr. Officer Kirk Stowers explained to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that one family cat scratched another and Garcia threatened to kill the animal.

Garcia’s girlfriend attempted to leave the apartment, but he refused to let her go and assaulted her, police said.

Garcia also threatened to shoot at responding officers, police stated.

Hostage negotiation teams and SWAT were also dispatched, but his girlfriend was in the end released from the apartment without injury before they arrived.

Garcia gave himself up and was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault, making terroristic threats and also unlawful restraint.

The cat suffered no injuries.
