AVON, NORTH CAROLINA – A man has been charged with animal cruelty after cats were found shot to death and left in a dumpster.

Jordan Wallace Boykin, 26, of Manteo was indicted Feb. 29 by a grand jury on a total of four counts of felony animal cruelty, said Capt. Kevin Duprey of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office. He declined to make public how many cats were found.

Boykin was arrested this past Saturday and was released on a $30,000 secured bond.

Following a tip, deputies found the cats in a dumpster in Avon back on Dec. 30. An investigation followed which eventually ended with this arrest.

It is not certain whether the cats found in the dumpster were feral or domestic, Duprey said.
