Man charged with animal cruelty after cat found burned

MARYLAND – A cat that suffered burns over a very large portion of his body will need extensive care, Anne Arundel County police explained.

County police stated that officers found the cat June 30 inside a house in the 8300 block of Hope Point Court. Concerned for the animal’s well-being, the officers ended up calling Animal Control to assist with providing veterinary treatment for the cat, who has been unofficially named, Charlie.

Charlie was taken over to the Anne Arundel County Emergency Veterinary Hospital, where he was stabilized. Charlie was later picked up and whisked over to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital for long-term treatment.

Authorities believe Charlie will make a full recovery. However, he will need extensive treatments.

Charges of animal cruelty have been filed against the owner of the cat, Sean Todd McDermott, who is 53.
