Pet Owner Swung His 12-week-old Kitten Around on Leash!

UNITED KINGDOM – A man literally swung his pet kitten around on a leash. He also dragged it along the ground and slammed it into concrete, a court in Victoria has heard.

Mornington man Jason Roach, who is 27, appeared in Frankston Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the attack on the 12-week-old kitten last year, reported the Herald Sun.

Roach did guilty to wounding an animal, two unlawful assaults and using threatening words as well as an unrelated aggravated assault on a woman.

The kitten, whose name is Mitzi, suffered a collapsed lung, broken leg and lacerated eye but survived the attack.

Prosecutor Sgt Ross Treverton explained to the court a woman heard the kitten crying in York Street in Mornington about 7.30pm on February 26 last year.

She witnessed Roach dragging the kitten along the footpath on a leash, then swing it into the air and slam it down on the concrete.

When she yelled at Roach, he told her to mind her own business, and went on to say that he was ‘training his f***ing cat’.

Roach later took Mitzi to vet with a friend and claimed she’d been attacked by a dog, where he threatened to ‘smash’ staff with a baseball bat.

Police arrested Roach the very next day and seized Mitzi and took her to the RSPCA where she had two operations.

Michael Kats, who is counsel for Roach, said his client was now disgusted by his behavior.

He went on to say that Roach had alcohol, drug, mental health problems and a troubled childhood.

In court Roach pleaded guilty to wounding an animal, two unlawful assaults and using threatening words as well as an unrelated aggravated assault on a woman.

Mitzi is now living with Leading Senior Constable Ron Trainer of Mornington police, who is the one who investigated the attack.

Magistrate Gattuso ordered Roach to reappear for his sentencing on November 7 and attend a psychiatric assessment.

Currently, he is banned from owning or caring for animals until the appearance.
