Mother of Two Puppies is Struck and Killed, 2 Mama Cats Come to the Rescue!

Each and every one of us humans have family members with which we share blood. Luckily, we also have the right, as humans, to view certain friends as family if we so choose to. And who can deny that sometimes, these individuals then become more like family to us than our blood relatives.

The same applies to animals.

Just recently, two orphaned puppies came into the care of the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter which is located in the state of Georgia.

A bit of history about the puppies ..

Shelter supervisor Chris Bussy told The Huffington Post that, “The pups were rescued from the side of the road after a car hit and killed their mother.”

Bussy went to on say, “At only about 2 weeks old, they were still too young to be weaned onto solid food. Luckily for the pups, the shelter had two nursing mother cats who were happy to make room for one puppy apiece.”

The puppies were immediately introduced to the mama cats and wouldn’t you know it? Both mama cats immediately accepted the puppies as if they were part of their own litters.

“The puppies sleep with the kittens,” Bussy said. “They’re one big happy family.”

A bit of history about the two mama cats …

The two mama cats were left at the shelter by a man who claims he already had too many pets and was looking to lighten his load.

Everything happens for a reason.

Although the shelter has in the past placed orphaned puppies with nursing mother dogs before, this was the very first attempt at placing puppies with nursing mama cats.

Linda Couto of the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society told the LaGrange Daily News that if the match hadn’t worked, “the shelter workers would probably have had to feed them with a formula-filled syringe.”

“Since the two cats just had litters, they’re able to nurse,” she said. “It’s like a motherly instinct.”

Bussy also told HuffPost that as soon as the kittens and puppies are old enough, they’ll all be transported, along with the mother cats via Puppy Pipeline Rescue to the Animal Humane Society which is located in Golden Valley, Minnesota.

It’s there that they will be put up for adoption..
