Cat in Critical Condition After Being Used in ‘Religious Ritual’

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – A cat that is now believed to have been used in a possible ritual or sacrifice was found with burns and stab wounds at a Fort Worth cemetery on Sunday.

Fort Worth police and firefighters discovered the animal in Harrison Cemetery which is located on Meadowbrook Drive, where a small fire had been set in front of a headstone, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported.The severely burned and also tabbed cat, which appeared to be domesticated, was likely used in a “religious ritual or sacrifice,” police said to WFAA.The cat was immediately taken to a local animal hospital for treatment.

“The cat has been stabilized with medications, but is extremely critical,” Fort Worth spokeswoman Diane Covey explained in an email to WFAA.

Bottles, candles, cash, latex gloves, cigars, a crucifix and peppers were also found close-by near the animal, police stated.

Officials have opened an active investigation, but no arrests have been made.
