Cat Found in Locked Trunk Abandoned Near Maine Baseball Field!

MAINE – Two residents of Buxton, Maine, came to the aid of a cat trapped inside a sealed trunk that was abandoned near a baseball field on Monday.

In the early morning hours, the two people were taking a walk at the Hollis Sports Complex when they noticed a large trunk in the parking lot, according to a blog post written by the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

“When they attempted to open the trunk, they heard the crying of a cat inside,” the post reads. “Unable to open it on their own, they brought it to a friend’s house who opened it with a screwdriver. Sky was in the trunk, without food or water.”

The cat, who is now named Sky, is believed to be 1 year old and possibly someone’s former pet.

“She was observed to have a significant amount of fleas and flea dirt, but otherwise in fair condition. She is affectionate and well-socialized,” the post goes on to say.

Sky received a full medical evaluation and check-up from ARLGP staff and veterinary team, and pending continued good health, the sweet kitty will be available for adoption soon.

“Sky is doing well in our care. Our team continues to monitor her health and wellbeing,” Jeana Roth, director of community engagement, said to PEOPLE Magazine in an email. “We anticipate she will be ready to find her new beginning with a loving family as soon as this weekend.”
