SOUTH CAROLINA – The Pounce Cat Cafe is only about a month away from opening it’s doors and they’re looking to build their kitty crew.
Located at a great spot on Meeting Street where Holy City Vintage used to be, the cat room will run on an hourly reservation system and the cafe will serve beer, wine, coffee, tea, and pastries.
Co-owner Ashley Brooks explained they’re looking to fill between three and five positions including hostesses, ‘pouncers,’ and bartenders.
Pouncers will get to hang out with the kitties quite a bit, making sure both guests and gatos have everything they need and are on their best behavior. They also make sure the environment is kept pleasant by keeping a ‘nose’ on things litter-wise.
“To be totally honest, we’re really looking for people who are the total package,” stated Brooks. “Experience in the food and beverage industry or hospitality as well as experience in cat care and/or a passion for cats and animal welfare – it might be asking for a lot, but we want the absolute best employees to be handling our customers and our cats.”
Brooks explained the cafe will be open every day but Tuesday, noon to 9 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the weekend (6 p.m. on Sunday).
However, this job won’t just be cats-play. There’s a serious service to the community behind the scenes: finding homes for Charleston’s many homeless cats.
Pounce has partnered up with the Charleston Animal Society who will be providing not only 10-20 of the most fun and playful kittens and cats in their arsenal and will teach the Pounce staff their adoption process so cafe customers can adopt on the spot.
So it’s not just paw-some patrons who can’t wait for the fur to fly.
“Last night we rescued 34 kittens and cats from rising waters in Chester, SC,” stated Kay Hyman with the Charleston Animal Society. “There will always be kitties waiting for their turn to lounge in the Cat cafe! We are purring with antici-PATION!”
