LONDON – A fat cat that weighed the same amount as a two-year-old child has managed to lose a third of his total weight so he can look for a new home.
Oliver, a tabby, weighed in at 22lbs when he first arrived at the RSPCA centre in Finsbury Park, north east London, because his elderly owner was not longer able care for him.
Vets discovered that he was twice the weight of a normal cat and decided that he certainly needed to lose six lbs – a third of his weight – so he could have ital surgery on his ear.
Consequently, he was forced to go on a strict regime of regular exercise and low-calorie food while he shed the required weight.
Oliver managed to shed the weight while living with foster carer whose name is Emma Alonze, and left weighing a healthy 14 pounds!
Having overcome his most glaring health issues, he is now looking for a permanent home.
Animal Welfare Officer Hayley Plows stated: ‘Oliver is a lovely cat and would make someone the perfect pet. He has worked really hard to lose his weight, and now deserves to find his forever home.
‘It isn’t ideal for Oliver to be in here long term so we hope a kind-hearted person will be able to take him in.’
