Suspected Cat Burglar Foiled By of All Things … a Group of Cats!

TEXAS – A cat’s meow literally foiled a 47-year-old suspected cat burglar Thursday who later was found hiding on a patio and arrested by police.

Police were summoned at about 1 a.m. to a home in the 500 block of South Carancahua Street. A woman explained to police that she was washing dishes when she heard her cats “going crazy” on her pack porch.

She looked outside a dining room window to see an unknown man staring at her, police explained.

The woman called police, who arrived to find the weird man hiding behind a screen on the woman’s patio, police stated. Officers discovered the man also burglarized a locked car and also a side laundry room.

Adrian Avalos, who is 47, was arrested on suspicion of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony. If convicted, he will face as much as 20 years in prison and as much as a $10,000 fine.

Avalos was being held Friday at the Nueces County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Avalos has a total of 27 prior convictions dating back to 1988, according to Nueces County court records.
