This is the story of Frank and Louie, the well-known two-faced kitty that lived in Massachusetts. Sadly, he passed away back in December 2014 at the age of 15.
Two-faced cats are known as Janus cat – which is named for the Roman god Janus, that was portrayed as having two faces, according to National Geographic. Most animals that have this particular birth abnormality don’t live that long – but Frank and Louie lived a long, happy life!
Leslie Lyons from the University of Missouri’s Department of Veterinary Medicine explained that the cause of Janus cats isn’t fully understood.
Frank and Louie was a Ragdoll, but Lyons doesn’t believe that breeding plays a role in the condition because it is so rare. Mary Stevens, Frank and Louie’s mommy decided to take the cat home so the poor thing wouldn’t be euthanized.
