Long Distance Cat Adoption From California to North Carolina!

NORTH CAROLINA – Adopting from a local animal shelter may help save lives, but one woman decided to travel the extra mile Tuesday afternoon.

Periwinkle, a Devon Rex kitten, may not have flown first class Wednesday morning, but she is moving over 2,500 miles across the country.

Debbie Cooper, who is a Los Angeles resident, says her cat recently passed away in May. Now months have passed and Cooper says she and her husband are ready for another feline friend.

When she first saw a photo of Periwinkle posted online by the Saving Graces for Felines organization in Pitt County, she immediately fell in love and traveled from the city of angels to Greenville.

Cooper explains, “It was really important for me to adopt instead of shop. Even though it cost about the same or maybe a little more, I think it was worth it. I feel like she adopted me, not the other way around.”

Saving Graces says this is the second time in 15 years that a California resident has actually flown eastern North Carolina for an animal adoption.

Another happy ending!
