Michigan Cat Shelter Offers Special Yoga and Pilates Classes That Include Cats and Kittens!

FERNDALE, MICHIGAN – If you don’t mind getting a bit of fur on your yoga pants, then this class is for you.

A cat shelter located in Ferndale offers group exercise classes in a room full of kittens!

Miranda Mayuiers is “Purrlates” Instructor the Catfe Lounge.

“We have a mat-based Pilates class and we allow the cats to come out and interact with us,” she stated.

The Catfe Lounge in Ferndale now offers yoga and Pilates classes in a room full of adoptable cats and kittens.

“Cats who will just fall asleep in the middle of your mat and you have to work around them.”

Miranda claims the cats sometimes take over the mats, leaving participants to maneuver around their new furry friends.

“It’s a lot of fun. It keeps class exciting,” she went on to explain. “This class is all word of mouth and Facebook posts and we’ve been really fortunate that it’s been doing so well.”

Luckily, you don’t need cat-like reflexes to workout here!

“We’ve had people who’ve never done a yoga class or Pilates class.”

This class aims to benefit both humans and cats.

“The cats are always doing something – whether they are sleeping, whether they are watching us, whether they are batting at our hands and it helps – helps break the ice with us.”

The classes at Catfe Lounge are just the perfect thing for people looking to make friends, both two and four-legged.

“It’s nice because we have a lot of people that come in by themselves,” Miranda stated. “We’ve also had a number of cats adopted out.”

The yoga classes take place every Thursday night and “Purrlates” is only on Saturday mornings. Both classes are held to raise money for the shelter.

“It is a suggested donation of $15. We are also always looking for donations for the cat café in terms of food, cat litter, paper towels, cleaning supplies.”

Remember — the point is the help these kittens to be able to find a forever home. So don’t BYOC – bring your own cat!

“I tell people bring your mat, not your cat,” she continued.
